REST IN PEACE . . . GEORGE MCCORKLE
Musician Andy Tanas informed Juke N' Jamm via email on Friday, June 29th of the following sad news:
For those of you that either knew or knew of him, I just got the news that George McCorkle passed away today. He was diagnosed with advanced cancer just a few weeks ago. George was one of the original Marshall Tucker Band members. He was a great player, a brilliant writer (Fire on the Mountain) and a genuinely good soul. Send many thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones. I met George back in 74 and did a lot of shows with The Tucker boys on that Lynyrd Skynyrd Tour in 75. God bless you George. Much love and appreciation to ya. http://georgemccorkle.com/

MEMPHIS MUSICIAN NEEDS HELP TO GET HIS HOUSE BACK IN ORDER
Currently, time is running out for Blind Mississippi Morris Cummings and his wife, Melody to either make repairs on his 100-years old house or be forced to vacate. Memphis code enforcement has given the legendary blues musician less than a month to fix what's wrong which is expected to cost at least $25,000 if not more. If the deadline is not met in the next couple of weeks, Mr. & Mrs. Cummings will have to move out.
Over the years, Mr. Cummings has performed charity work for other groups in need of help. He hopes the community can return the favor.
If interested in making a contribution to the "Mississippi Morris Rescue Fund", call (901) 516-8956 for more information.

LEND YOUR VOICE TO STOP THE VIOLENCE
Gun violence continues to escalated in the city of Memphis and surrounding suburbs.
Last week, Glen "Buddy" Page was shot and killed at a Kawasaki dealership in Bartlett, Tennessee. Buddy was also head cook of a local BBQ team called the "Tennessee Boar-B-Que". Chris Thomas, a close friend of Buddy's and a member of the team, is fed up with the violence and has started a petition supporting the "Crooks With Guns" bill. Click here to read an article from Channel 24 news describing this bill. The goal of the petition is to post 1000 names. Once this goal is met, the petition will be forwarded to Gov. Phil Bredesen. To sign in support of this petition, click here. Also, you can reach Gov. Bredesen's office at (615) 741-2001 to let him know how you feel or email him at phil.bredesen@state.tn.us.
The "Tennessee Boar-B-Que" team was planning to compete at the Tennessee FunFest 2007 being held June 14th thru 16th at the Agricenter International in Memphis. They are currently raising money to sponsor an award to be given at the FunFest in honor of Buddy. An memorial fund has already been established in his name. If you would like to help, go to www.tnboarbque.com for details.
The Memphis Flyer has also published this week an article regarding three crime bills including "Crooks With Guns" bill submitted to the legislature. To read this article, click here.
