MSA WORKSHOP AT MO'S EDGE COFFEEHOUSE

The Memphis Songwriters Association will be holding a workshop with Michael Porter on Saturday, Oct 20 from 9:30am to 2pm at MO's Edge Coffeehouse. MO's is located at 3521 Walker in the U of M Highland District. MSA workshops are a wonderful tool for those inspiring to become a songwriter or just want to polish a songwriter's skill. HERMAN GREEN MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL

On Oct. 20th, Emmanuel Church’s Third Annual Music and Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20th, noon – 6 pm on the church grounds, 4150 Boeingshire Drive at West Raines Road in Memphis. (Rain date is Sun., Oct. 21, noon – 6 pm) The festival features a line-up of musical performers, including two world-class groups: Herman Green and the Green Machine, and FreeWorld. BLUES WORKSHOP COMING UP THE LAST WEEKEND IN OCTOBER

The Silver Ash Ranch in Potts Camp, Mississippi is sponsoring a Blues Workshop No. 1 "Blues Seminar: Learn from the Masters". FESTIVAL TO HONOR A MEMPHIS LEGEND

The first annual Jimmie Lunceford Jamboree Festival is taking place in Memphis this weekend, Oct 19th through 21st. The purpose of this festival is to honor and bring awareness to the forgotten and impressive legacy and achievements of Jimmie Lunceford, the first high school band orchestra leader/conductor in the history of the Memphis City Schools. FOLK ALLIANCE SINGER-SONGWRITER NIGHT

The Folk Alliance is proud to present its first inaugural Singer-Songwriter Night this Friday, Oct 19th at the Coffee House Concerts Series located at the Church of the Holy Communion (4645 Walnut Grove Rd at Perkins).

The Coffee House opens at 7:00pm with the concert starting at 8:00pm. Artists featured are Keith Sykes, Jimmy Davis, Cory Branan, and Blair Combest. Tickets are $25 at the door.

Photographer Ernest Withers Passes



Photographer Ernest Withers Passed away monday evening. Mr. Withers was a Master Photographer. I had the honor of him sitting next to me during the Stax party at the Gibson. We were on the steps in front of the stage. I watched him and tried to get some of the same shots. He was a nice and generous man may he rest in peace.

A NEW TRADITION IS LAUNCHED IN MEMPHIS

The inaugural RIVER ARTS FEST will be happening Friday-Sunday, Oct 26th thru 28th in the South Main Arts District of Downtown Memphis. This free event is a weekend celebration of the visual, performing, and culinary arts promoting public involvement in the arts for the benefit, education, and enjoyment of the people of Memphis and surrounding areas. More than 200 local and out-of-state artists have been invited to exhibit their work throughout South Main and live music will be performed on two stages. THE HARDEST WORKING BAND IN MEMPHIS CELEBRATES A MILESTONE

FREEWORLD’S “20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND ALUMNI REUNION BENEFIT SHOW” WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT NEWBY’S (539 S. HIGHLAND) ON SAT, NOV 11th.

The original members of FreeWorld got together and played their first official gigs in October of 1987, so they will be celebrating this major milestone by inviting back all their former band members to grace the stage together for one incredible night of musical magic & mayhem. This week's Memphis Flyer publication has a story on online radio station "allmemphismusic.com" under the 'Local Beat' music column. The station's focus is exclusive broadcasting of Memphis and/or MidSouth music. They are currently interested in obtaining new Memphis music. Musicians, artists, and/or bands in Memphis or the surrounding area with recorded original songs should send their CD to David Fleishman at 9169 Tryon Cove in Memphis, TN 38108 or Jon Scott at 5352 Norwich Ave in Sherman Oaks, CA 91411. 2007 BARTLETT CELEBRATION THIS WEEKEND

Starting Friday evening, hot air balloons will light up the sky over Bartlett as the 2007 Bartlett Celebration & Car Show kicks off on Sept 28th at 6pm. The celebration will be held in W.J. Freeman Park located at 2629 Bartlett Blvd. Friday festivities include a midway carnival and live entertainment with 2 Mule Plow performing from 7pm-9pm. Gates open at 9am on Saturday for a day filled with all kinds of events, food, and music until 5pm. Admission is free and a free shuttle bus is available.
